Privacy Policy

Information we collect

• Account details. Your name, email address and password when you create an account. Passwords are stored securely by our sign in provider and we never see them in plain text.
• Profile details. A display name and avatar if you choose to add them.
• Membership and payments. If you take a paid membership, our payment provider processes your card. We receive a record of your plan and its status but never your full card number.
• YouTube membership. If you verify a YouTube channel membership, we receive limited information from Google to confirm your membership level.
• Discord. If you link a Discord account for the community, we store your Discord user id and username so we can give you the right roles.
• Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store your email address and a record of your consent, including when and how you signed up.
• Learning activity. The courses you enrol in, lessons you complete, quiz attempts and certificates you earn.
• Technical data. Basic usage and device information, and cookies needed to keep you signed in.

How we use your information

We use your information to run the Academy and provide the service you have asked for. This includes managing your account and membership, processing payments, granting community and membership benefits, sending service messages such as confirmations and receipts, sending the newsletter where you have given consent, understanding how the site is used so we can improve it, and keeping the service secure and meeting our legal obligations.

Our legal bases

Under UK data protection law we rely on the following bases: performance of a contract, to run your account and membership; consent, for the newsletter and any optional cookies; our legitimate interests, to secure and improve the service; and legal obligation, for records we are required to keep.

Who we share it with

We share data only with the service providers that help us run the Academy, and each receives only what it needs:

• Supabase, for our database and sign in.
• Stripe, for processing payments.
• Resend, for sending email.
• Discord, for the community.
• Google and YouTube, for videos and membership verification.
• Vercel, for hosting the site.

We do not sell your personal data. Some of these providers may process data outside the UK, and where they do, appropriate safeguards are in place.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as you have an account, and after that only as long as needed to meet our legal and accounting obligations. You can ask us to close your account and delete your data at any time.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, to receive a copy of it, and to withdraw consent at any time. For the newsletter you can withdraw consent using the unsubscribe link in any email. To exercise any right, contact us at info@theindustryportal.com. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to run the site. These are needed for the service to work.

Children

The Academy is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 16.

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page.
