Welcome to Day 4 of the Industry Portal liquidity management course, where we focus on how banks are structured to manage liquidity risk in practice.
In this session, we move beyond concepts and explore the operating model behind liquidity management β how people, processes, and systems come together to keep a bank stable day to day and during stress.
You will learn how key functions interact, including Treasury, Liquidity Risk, Finance, Technology, and senior leadership. We explain how Treasury manages cash, funding, and liquidity buffers, while Risk provides independent oversight through limits, stress testing, and governance.
The video also covers how Finance supports liquidity management through balance sheet data, forecasting, and regulatory reporting, and how Technology enables real time monitoring, automation, and accuracy across systems.
A key focus is governance. You will understand how Boards set liquidity risk appetite, how ALCO oversees strategic decisions, and how the Three Lines of Defence model ensures accountability and challenge across the organisation.
We also explore the systems and infrastructure that support liquidity management, including reporting platforms, stress testing tools, dashboards, and regulatory reporting frameworks such as LCR and NSFR.
For international banks, we explain how liquidity is managed across entities and jurisdictions, including ring fencing, local regulatory requirements, and intragroup funding considerations.
By the end of this session, you will understand how a well structured liquidity management framework operates and why coordination, governance, and systems are critical to resilience.
